Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, age 59, is an entrepreneur and the Chairman and Managing Director of Biocon Ltd, a biotechnology company in Bengaluru, India. At the age of 25, she founded the company in 1978 by partnering with an Irish firm. She is also on the board of governors of the Indian School of Business and the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad.

According to the Forbes List of the Top 100 Richest Indians, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is ranked as number 92. She is among the richest women in India with a net worth of $ 625 Million. She is a self made woman and her source of wealth is in biotechnology. Her pioneering work earned her several awards and accolades.

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw completed her schooling from Bishop Cotton Girl’s High School and did her graduation in B.Sc. Zoology Honours from Mount Carmel College, University of Bangalore. She did her post-graduation as a Brewmaster in Malting and Brewing from Ballarat College, University of Melbourne.

In 1978, she started her company and led to its evolution from a small company to a fully integrated bio-pharmaceutical company. She is responsible for the growth and innovation of Biocon over the years. Today, her leadership has bought Biocon to a global scale in its manufacturing and marketing activities.
